Often I hear people say that poverty is a bad thing. Is it true or not? Who will answer this question properly to me? I am always so confused when I think about that. Why does poverty exist? Why are people suffering? How can I be living in luxury when others are sleeping on the street? It has been there since the beginning.
Last week I was walking around and I saw a woman who was not well dressed. I could not stop looking at her and thought ''God she hasn't got any fashion sense''. Then she approached and said, I know why you are looking like this at me and gave me a shocking and striking answer ''why should I care what am I wearing when poverty affected me so much?'' I apologized and went away. People do get disturbed with their life condition and it is sad.
Feeling inferior or shame is also another issue when others have more things than you. You don't feel at ease when they talk about stuffs or the places they went to. I have seen how some people how surround me start frowning or fake smiles when I start relating how many funny incidents I had while travelling and I stop my track because it hurts their feelings and I did not realize it. I wish I could make it out when to say or when not to.
Also it is incredible how men go to prostitutes in the dark then talk nonsense about them when it is day in front of others. You are the one who encourage such kind of activity and act like an innocent. Why do you think that a woman has to sell her body? Does she really want to? Not at all. The society pushes them to do that because either they are forced to or are dragged to eventually. Seeing a helpless and poor woman selling her body just to have enough money to feed her hungry baby is sad. This is what poverty can do to you.
Furthermore it compels a person to beg to others which makes him fall in his own eyes. He starts feeling bad about himself. There must be a turmoil in his mind and heart. Who does not judge such type of people? It also happens when people do not help him, he ends up blaming himself throughout his life, commits suicide or simply run away from his family. You may call it cowardice but life can be harsh on you when you do not have anything to meet your two ends.
To conclude Imam Ali (as) said ''If poverty was a man, I would kill him.'' So many people are in poverty and the minority were the rich. If only money was distributed equally among each of us, there would not be poverty.
Allah give money to others to help those who don't have!
ReplyDeletePoverty, techinically described is an empty pocket, thirsty throat and empty stomach too.
ReplyDeleteIt was yesterday evening, I was travelling back to home and on my way amongst thousands of so-called elite-rich- literate people there were these kids, rolling by the side of the road, speedy vehicles and the people with busy lifestyles, none of them noticed those two young buds of life rolling on the road, merrily. They were in one corner of the road, one upon the other, their rag sacks beneath them; torned clothes, empty pockets nothing botherred them, they were married with joy. Joy so beautiful that even the rich cannot buy, the poor might have empty pockets but bigger hearts.
Subanallah !
